Here at Neon Creations, when we get requests from people looking to commission a design into neon one of the most common questions we get asked is whether the neon sign will be safe.
Many people can be worried that the gases that make up neon signs could be harmful if any damage is caused to the sign, as well as what happens to the electrical current running through it. We are here to set the record straight about a few things, and show you just how safe our Neon Creations are!

The vast majority of signs that we make at Neon Creations are bespoke, and made specially in-house – but we also have signs that are available to buy & hire. Neon signs are created from glass tubes, dependant on the colour of the sign a clear glass, powder coated glass or coloured glass is used. The sign is then pumped with neon or argon gas, again this is dependent on what the client requires the final colour of the sign to be.

We have over 25 years’ experience in the neon industry, and we’ve been established for 11 years now. So it’s safe to say that we know what we’re doing. It can be quite frustrating witnessing pop-up businesses selling neon artwork that hasn’t been sourced or designed responsibly, but you can rest assured that when you buy or hire through Neon Creations, the product that you’re getting has been well-designed and manufactured from start to finish. Each sign that we create is usually encased in some form of acrylic to protect the glass tubing, this again depends on the design of the Neon Creation; if your neon tubing does, for any reason, get smashed any power to the neon sign would be immediately cut off meaning that there will be no electric current passing through.
*if your neon sign is going to be displayed in a public area, we do recommend having a clear covering over it and it to be placed out of reach to the public to protect it from any knocks.
The majority of the neon signs that we create are less than 100 watts of illumination, with a lot even being fewer than 60 watts, which is the wattage of a typical domestic light bulb. This means that they should be no more dangerous than a typical household light or lamp; basically, we are saying don’t touch the sign, as with any electrical device, you must treat it with precaution.
